Oklahoma Panhandle State University and Amarillo College to Host Joint Choir Concert

Oklahoma Panhandle State University and Amarillo College are excited to announce a joint choir concert on October 8, 2024, at 7 p.m. The event will occur in the Centennial Theater, in Hughes-Strong Hall on the OPSU campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

This concert marks a continuation of a growing partnership between the two institutions following a successful spring choral showcase at Amarillo College earlier this year. The event will feature various choral performances, showcasing the talents of students from both schools in a collaborative celebration of music and community.

Dr. Zachary Cooke, OPSU’s Director of Music and Assistant Professor of Music expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming concert, saying, “I am beyond ecstatic to jumpstart our Fall Concert series by collaborating with Amarillo College’s choral program. Picking up from our spring trip to Amarillo College in April, it has been a true joy getting to know their director, Dr. Nathan Fryml, and planning and putting on this joint choir concert. To engage in interdisciplinary musical events with Amarillo College depicts the true meaning of active music engagement and performance!”

The concert promises to be an enriching experience, reflecting the spirit of collaboration and artistic expression. It also underscores the dedication of both institutions to fostering connections through the arts, enhancing the cultural vibrancy of the Oklahoma Panhandle region.

“I am incredibly proud to witness the continued growth of the partnership between Oklahoma Panhandle State University and Amarillo College under the leadership of Dr. Cooke. This upcoming joint choir concert is a powerful testament to the importance of collaboration in the arts, and I am thrilled that our music department is playing a central role in this exciting cultural exchange,” stated Dr. Charla Lewis, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs. “The dedication and talent displayed by the students and faculty from both institutions not only highlight their musical abilities but also serve as a shining example of the strong community we are building through shared artistic endeavors.”

All community members, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend this special event and support the collaborative efforts of OPSU and Amarillo College’s choral programs.
